About Engineering World Health

Engineering World Health is a non-profit organization aiming at improving the technological infrastructure of hospitals in developing countries. To succeed EWH is involved in developing devices suited for hospitals in the developing world, where spare parts are scarce. EWH stations experienced engineers in developing countries like Rwanda to train local technicians in repairing medical devices.

EWH also help and supervise students in starting development projects that are fit for hospitals in the developing world. Examples of former projects that has been developed and are used in the developing countries are a defibrillator tester, ECG tester and reusable ECG pads.

EWH Summer Institute

On the EWH Summer Institutes engineering students are sent to a third world hospital to identify damaged and unused medical equipment. Students then repair this equipment and train hospital staff in use and essential maintenance of the devices. In this way medical equipment remains useful for many years to come, saving many lives.
